It is common for many to self-diagnose a “broken metabolism” or under functioning thyroid. Although a popular scapegoat, the thyroid is not the problem in many cases. Our thyroid simple monitors the rest of our internal environment and adjusts accordingly. I have heard it referenced as a thermostat for our metabolism.

Every so often I will make posts that deliver the hard truth and thus they are not so easily received or accepted. This will be one of those posts and I am going to elaborate on an analogy I’ve heard used by other coaches to make my point. If you have at one point or another turned down the offer to work with myself or a coach of AT, then this would apply to you. Furthermore, if you ghosted us after we took the time to assess your goals and provide our thoughts on a success path, then this applies to you.

When it comes to our weight, or disappointment in that regard, it is common to blame a slow metabolism. In fact, this could easily be in the top 5 of excuses (lies) we tell ourselves to avoid accepting reality and taking accountability for our current situation. The common thought is that our metabolism slows down as we age, and thus we tend to gain weight the older we get as a consequence.
